Red Bulls Have Room for 'Improvements'

Jesse Marsch

The New York Red Bulls are preparing for MLS' Secondary Transfer Window, which opens on Monday, July 10.

"We have room to make improvements, so we're working hard to get that done," Head Coach Jesse Marsch said following a recent game.

The team is looking at options across all positions, including both attacking and defensive-minded players. Marsch said that the team needs players who can make an immediate impact.

“We want to bring in people that are able to adjust immediately because we need help now," Marsch said. "Every year we've kind of gone in with the approach that we have a good group, let’s get things going a bit and see what we need because you can go into a season and think you need one thing and you can get through the season and all of sudden realize that maybe you need something else."

The window will be open through August 9 and allows MLS teams to request the transfer certificate of a player under contract in another country.

Teams can still make trades that do not involve players – that is: swap draft picks, roster spots, allocation money and other assets – outside the two windows. Clubs may also transfer or loan their players to non-MLS clubs at any time, subject to the transfer window of the recipient club's national federation and subject to the consent of the player.

Last season, the team brought in Daniel Royer and Omer Damari during the second transfer window.
