7 THINGS WE LEARNED: Red Bulls Top Revs In New England

7 Things 070517

The New York Red Bulls shocked the New England Revolution with a late-game winner to nab three road points with a 3-2 victory. Here are 7 Things We Learned from the game…

Top Coach

Jesse Marsch has claimed the top spot among club coaches, notching MLS win No. 42 on Wednesday night.

“More than anything, I want to take the opportunity to thank the club,” Marsch said on the accomplishment. “The belief that people in this club have had for me and the support I've had, you know, has been incredible. Never as a player or a coach [have I] been anywhere where I've been supported so much.”

Marsch surpassed both Octavio Zambrano and Hans Backe with his victory.

Halftime Hustle

Marsch said the team discussed what the second half of the game would look like at halftime. He said the team came out flat at the first whistle and knew they would have to battle back in the second 45.

“We changed the formation and we got hold of things a little bit, but it wasn't until the second half that you saw our team play with more confidence, more grit,” Marsch said.

Game-Winner

Gonzalo Veron’s 90th minute stunner was his first game-winning goal with the New York Red Bulls.

But, it’s not his first game-winning points. He assisted on the game-winner against Philadelphia Union on June 18.

PK Perfection

Daniel Royer converted his second penalty kick of the season.

He is now a perfect two for two in 2017.

Summer Spark

July has been a good month for New York, with a 42-38-22 overall record.

BWP’s Best

Does he save his best for New England?

Bradley Wright-Phillips got New York on the board with a screamer in the 23rd minute.

It was his sixth career goal against the Revolution, the most by any player in franchise history.

Dan’s Debut

Dan Metzger made his MLS debut on Wednesday night for New York.

The Holmdel, New Jersey native was the third sub of the game, coming in during stoppage time for his first MLS minutes.
