USL Match Recap: NYRB II Down Riverhounds 2-0 at Home

HARRISON, N.J. (September 30, 2017) – New York Red Bulls II (12-12-5, 41 points) downed the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, (8-11-11, 35 points) 2-0, Saturday at MSU Soccer Park in front of a season-high crowd. The win was their fifth-straight win at home.


New York came out in dominating fashion outshooting Pittsburgh 13-0 and outposessing them 78 percent to 22 percent in first half. Amidst those stats, NYRB II got on the scoreboard via an own goal in the 25th minute that came via a Vincent Bezecourt free kick which was re-directed into net by Pittsburgh defender Obuchi Obinwa.


NYRB II pressed forward in the second half forcing multiple saves from New Jersey native Matt Perella. Dan Metzger came close doubling NYRB II’s lead in the 79th minute forcing a tip-save aimed for the top corner from Perella.


Pittsburgh nearly equalized six minutes later as Corey Hertzog hit the crossbar in front of an open net but the deflection was kept out.


NYRB II sealed the three points in the fourth minute of stoppage time as substitute Dilly Duka worked hard to get a turnover in the Pittsburgh final third and passed it off to Florian Valot who tapped it into an open net for his sixth goal of the season.


New York heads to Florida for a two-game road-trip starting Wednesday with a match against the Tampa Bay Rowdies and ending next Saturday against Orlando City B.
