(October 20, 2017) – New York Red Bulls II, defending USL Cup Champions, head to Charleston, South Carolina for a USL Eastern Conference Quarterfinal match against Charleston Battery FC Saturday night at MUSC Health Stadium. NYRB II’s path to a USL Cup Final will come by way of the road this season as the seven seed in comparison to having the top overall seed, as they in 2016 which allowed them to host each playoff match at Red Bull Arena.
Led by an attacking quartet of Stefano Bonomo (10 g), Florian Valot (9 g), Junior Flemmings (9 g) and Vincent Bezecourt (6 g), NYRB II tallied 34 of their 57 goals between the four on the year.
NYRB II won the season series against Charleston going 1-0-1 against the side, capturing a 2-1 home win at MSU Soccer Park in May while drawing even 1-1 at MUSC Health Stadium in August via a Stefano Bonomo goal.
Facing some squad rotation after last weekend’s road loss at Rochester, NYRB II’s key point of emphasis will remain along their backline bottling up Jamaican National Team striker Romario Williams, who had 15 goals on the season for Charleston.
If NYRB II were to advance, they would face the winner of Tampa Bay Rowdies/FC Cincinnati 3 vs. 6 match the following week at Al Lang Stadium or Nippert Stadium on the road.
