The Red Bulls went 0-1-1 in two MLS regular season games against Toronto, drawing at home and losing on the road.

In the club’s first meeting on May 19 at Red Bull Arena, the sides played to a 1-1 draw.

Bradley Wright-Phillips opened the scoring with a beautiful bicycle-kick goal in the 38th minute. Sacha Kljestan earned an assist on the goal.

In the second half, Toronto stole their road point when substitute Benoit Cheyrou buried the equalizer in the 70th minute.

In their previous encounter on September 30 at BMO Field, Toronto claimed all three points and the 2017 Supporters’ Shield in a 4-2 win.

Justin Morrow snatched two quick goals to start the game in the first half before Gonzalo Veron pulled one back for New York before halftime.

In the 77th minute, substitute Daniel Royer tied the game with a penalty kick, but the 2-2 scoreline was shortlived, as Victor Vazquez put away the game-winning penalty kick three minutes later, before Morrow finished off his hat trick in stoppage time.

The Red Bulls and Toronto will face off in a two-legged series, with the first match at Red Bull Arena, followed by the final and deciding leg at BMO Field.
