New York Red Bulls Pick Three on Day Two of 2019 MLS SuperDraft

Red Bulls selected Rashid Nuhu, Shean McSherry and Joey Piatczyc on Monday


HARRISON, N.J. (January 11, 2019) – The New York Red Bulls selected three players in Rounds Three and Four of the 2019 MLS Superdraft on Monday via teleconference.


The Red Bulls selected Fordham goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu with the No. 70 pick for their lone third round selection. In the fourth round, New York then drafted Princeton midfielder Sean McSherry and West Virginia midfielder Joey Piatczyc with the No. 78 and No. 84, respectively.




Rashid Nuhu (No. 70)
Goalkeeper • 6-1 • 175 lbs. • Accra, Ghana


Nuhu tallied back-to-back First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in his final two years at Fordham as he tallied 17 of his 30 shutouts during his junior and senior campaign. In four years, the Accra, Ghana, native, tallied a sub-one goals-against average (0.93) and a .771 save percentage with 242 saves and 30 shutouts overall.


Nuhu joins teammate and Red Bulls First Round selection Janos Loebe as the fourth Fordham player selected by the Red Bulls. Nuhu joins current New York Red Bulls II Head Coach John Wolyniec (seventh overall, 1998) and current goalkeeper Ryan Meara (31st overall, 2012) and Loebe as Fordham graduates.





Sean McSherry (No. 78)
Midfielder • 5-9 • 160 lbs. • Freehold, N.J.


McSherry, a two-time All-Ivy League selection, was a four-year letterman at Princeton. The Freehold, New Jersey, native tallied seven goals and nine assists in 47 matches played.





Joey Piatczyc (No. 84)
Midfielder • 5-8 • 158 lbs. • Lee’s Summit, Mo.


Piatczyc capped off his four-year campaign at West Virginia with an All-America Second Team nod in 2018. The Lee’s Summit, Missouri, native recorded eight goals and 10 assists, including five game-winning goals, in 17 matches played during his senior season to earn All-American honors. Piatczyc recorded 12 goals and 35 assists in 69 games played for his career as a Mountaineer.
