GET TO KNOW: Mathias Jørgensen

Jorgensen

The New York Red Bulls announced the signing of Mathias Jørgensen on Tuesday, February 21. Jorgensen joins the Red Bulls from Danish side Odense Boldklub.

The 18-year-old striker has starred for OB's U-19 team, scoring 28 goals in 25 matches. He's scored nine goals for the reserve team in nine games, as well. For the senior team, he's appeared 18 times and scored three goals.

“We are pleased to welcome Mathias to our club,” Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett said. “He is a talented young player who fits into our philosophy and playing style. Throughout the scouting, interviewing, and signing process we became more and more confident in Mathias’ character, his team-first attitude, and his competitive drive. His decision to join our club as a young European player speaks volumes about the New York Red Bulls and Major League Soccer.”

Jørgensen, listed as 6-foot-1, has appeared for Denmark's U-18 and U-19 squads. He was in the squad four times for the U-18s, and six times for the U-19s, where he scored one goal.

“We are really excited to have added Mathias to our team. He fits the profile of a Red Bull player and person that we look for,” Red Bulls Head Coach Chris Armas said. “As a striker, Mathias gives us another dynamic option up the field with his speed, clever movements, and willingness to run behind defenses. In addition to his talent though, we love his attitude, humbleness, and his desire to work for the team.”

Jørgensen was recently on trial with Borussia Mönchengladbach before New York was able to acquire him.

He will wear No. 25 for the club.
