Fernandez, MLS Homegrowns take on Chivas U-20s on July 30
HARRISON, N.J. (July 10, 2019) – New York Red Bulls Homegrown midfielder Omir Fernandez has been named to the roster for the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game, presented by Energizer®. Fernandez and the MLS Homegrown Team will take on the Chivas U-20 team on July 30 at 5 p.m. ET at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.
The 20-year-old Bronx native signed with the Red Bulls in January after two seasons at Wake Forest. Fernandez made his professional debut in the Concacaf Champions League and scored his first professional goal in Mexico against Santos Laguna. Fernandez has added two goals and two assists in 13 MLS appearances, including three starts.
Prior to joining the First Team, Fernandez recorded 18 goals and 11 assists in two seasons with Wake Forest. As part of the Red Bulls Academy, he scored 42 goals in 56 games. Fernandez has received U.S. U-18 and U-20 call ups.
The MLS Homegrown Game presented by Energizer® will be part of an exciting night of action at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. As part of a dual-event ticket, fans will be able to enjoy both the MLS Homegrown Game at 5 p.m. ET, followed by the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge presented by Target at 8 p.m. ET.
