MATCH RECAP, pres. by Provident Bank: Red Bulls Win Wild One in D.C.

match recap 082119

It was another wild 90 minutes in the Atlantic Cup.

The New York Red Bulls saw past D.C. United at Audi Field 2-1 in a game where both Wayne Rooney and Amro Tarek were sent off. It was quite the way to start Heineken Rivalry Week.

RBNY took the lead in the 6th minute, as Kaku capitalized on a failed clearance by Lucas Rodriguez, firing past Bill Hamid. Soon thereafter, the game got crazy.

Rooney appeared to elbow Cristian Casseres Jr. off the ball just before a D.C. United corner kick was to be whipped in and after Video Review, referee Ismail Elfath showed Rooney a red in the 24th minute. It was his second career MLS ejection. Before long, the clubs would be 10-v-10 after Tarek picked up his second yellow card for a challenge on Paul Arriola

In the second half, Ola Kamara scored a golazo on his full debut for D.C. but three minutes later the Red Bulls won a controversial penalty, which Daniel Royer dispatched for the game-winning goal.
