Academy Match Recap: NYCFC & D.C. United

New York Red Bulls U-13 and U-14 teams kicked off their fall season by taking on New York City FC Academy, while the other academy teams continued their campaigns against D.C. United.

Red Bulls U-19’s defeated D.C. United U-19’s, 3-2.

The U-19’s were disappointed in the first half, where D.C. United scored two goals in the 21st and 36th minute. As time ticked down, it looked like they would suffer their second straight loss, but in the 70th minute of play, Nico Rosamilia brought the U-19’s within one. Five minutes later, Daniel Russo leveled the match with 15 minutes left. Diogo Rebelo would score his third goal of the season and the game-winner in stoppage time to lift the U-19’s over D.C. United. Rosamilia was awarded the Man of the Match award.

Red Bulls U-17’s defeated D.C. United U-17’s, 2-1.

Kenan Hot earned his second straight Man of the Match award for his performance against D.C. United, where he scored a goal and had the game-winning assist. Hot opened up the scoring in the 25th minute off a penalty kick, but D.C. would level the match in the 60th minute. With time ticking down, Hot stepped over a free-kick late in second half stoppage time and delivered a great service, which found Max Andrews head and he smashed it home to win the match for the U-17’s.

Red Bulls U-15’s defeated D.C. United U-15’s, 3-0.

The U-15’s enjoyed a great day at Segra Field, where they recorded their second win of the season. Jamie Lucas scored the first goal of the day in the 26th minute off a pass from Luciano Sanchez. Darsein Gabriel would put in his second of the year shortly after. Finally, Sanchez would get on the board himself, when he converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute. Eric Ruiz was named Man of the Match for being a steady force in the center of the park.

Red Bulls U-14’s defeated NYCFC U-14’s, 2-1.

The U-14’s started their fall season off hot, when new signing Henry Wetson scored, the fastest goal for any New York Red Bulls academy team this season, in the ninth minute off a cross from outside back, Nicholas Sanchez. Unfortunately, NYCFC would equalize in the 20th minute. Wetson would make his presence known, when he would complete the brace and score the game-winning goal in the 80th minute. Wetson was named the Man of the Match in his home debut.

Red Bulls U-13’s lost to NYCFC U-13’s, 3-0.

The U-13’s suffered their first loss of the season to NYCFC U-13’s. NYCFC would score three goals in the second half in route to a victory. Outside back Ian Paulo would be awarded the first Man of the Match award for the season.

The U-13’s and U-14’s will welcome New York Cosmos Academy this weekend, while the other academy teams will host Montreal Impact Academy. All these matches will take place on Saturday, September 14 at Red Bulls Training Facility.
