KEYS TO THE GAME, pres. by Honda: New York Red Bulls vs. Philadelphia Union

Keys to the Game Philly Home

The New York Red Bulls lost their first home game of the 2020 season on Wednesday night and will host the Philadelphia Union on Sunday. The 1-0 defeat against D.C. United left the Red Bulls in seventh place in the Eastern Conference Standings. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.

Here are the Keys to the Game, presented by Honda:

Need to Take Advantage of Chances Created

Over the last 270 minutes played, the Red Bulls have only scored once even though they had eleven shots on target over three matches.

In their 1-0 loss to D.C. United, New York had 17 shots, four of them on target. D.C. United goalkeeper Chris Seitz made four saves.

On Sunday against a Philadelphia Union side that has 15 points, the Red Bulls can’t afford to miss big scoring opportunities.

Stay Alert

The 1-0 defeat to D.C. was a hard pill to swallow as the winning goal was scored in the 98th minute.

That hasn’t been the only stoppage time goal New York has conceded. In their 1-1 draw against Real Salt Lake, the home side scored in the 91st minute.

Against New England, the Red Bulls conceded six minutes after scoring the first goal of the game.

In their home opener, the Red Bulls conceded their first of the game in the 46th minute but went on to defeat FC Cincinnati 3-2, but in the MLS is Back Tournament, Columbus Crew SC scored their second of their night in the 47th minute and sealed a 2-0 win over the Red Bulls. In the 2-0 loss to FC Cincy in Orlando, New York conceded the first goal of the night nearing halftime.

There’s an aspect of staying alert that the Red Bulls need to improve in order to keep leads and give themselves an opportunity to get the results. Conceding in stoppage time or right after halftime are moments New York need to start preventing.

Philly’s Road Results Not the Same as Home Results

The Union will arrive at Red Bull Arena after losing 1-0 in their visit to the Columbus Crew SC.

In the MLS is Back Tournament group stage, the Union got two wins and one draw, helping their regular season record to be at 4-2-3.

Their only two home games this season have been victories, one of them against the Red Bulls and the other against D.C. United.

However their record away from Subaru Park isn't positive with two losses and two draws.
