Red Bulls Academy Rounds Out Fall Season

The academy teams finished their fall seasons participating in their respective tournaments in Florida. The U-12’s competed in the Generation Adidas Cup, the U-14’s participated in the ICC Futures tournament, and the U-17’s and U-19’s played in the 2019 DA Winter Cup.

The U-12’s went 5-1-0 in the GA Cup, scoring 19 goals in all of those matches. They lost to Los Angeles FC in semifinals, which ended in a penalty kick shootout. The U-12’s ended up defeating Atlanta United FC, 2-0, and placing third in the tournament. Forward Aiden Costner won the Golden Boot with eight goals.

The U-19’s went 1-2-0 at the 2019 DA Winter Cup. They lost their first two matches to DeAnza Force and Oakwood Academy. Despite the early struggles, they would win their last group stage match against Inter Miami CF, 2-1. Sal Esposito and Jake La Cava scored the goals in the match.

The U-17’s compiled a 1-2-0 record at the 2019 DA Winter Cup. They lost their first match to Chicago Fire Soccer Academy but bounced back and defeated San Antonio FC. Roald Mitchell and Joseph Zalinsky led the team in scoring with two goals apiece.

The U-15’s participated in friendlies against other top MLS academies at the IMG Academy. They won all three of their friendlies defeating Atlanta United FC U-15’s, 2-1. The U-15’s won their last match of the friendly tournament against Colorado Rapids U-15’s, 3-1.

The U-14’s went 3-1-0 at the 2019 ICC Futures Tournament. They were the only MLS academy to move on to the quarterfinals of the event. The U-14’s won all three of their group stage matches against Michigan Wolves, ICC South, and Tottenham Hotspur. Lenny Aviles led the team in scoring with four goals, while captain Copeland Berkley and Patrick Shaw added two each.

The U-15’s and U-17’s will be the next academy teams in action, when they travel to Utah in February to participate in the second round of GA Cup qualifying.
