New York Red Bulls selected midfielder Deri Corfe with the 41st overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. Corfe participated in the first team’s preseason camp in Bradenton, Florida and then joined New York Red Bulls II for camp in Richmond, Virginia. He signed his first professional contract on March 6, 2020.

Q. What has been the best moment of your soccer career so far?

Corfe: The best moment of my soccer career was when I signed my first professional contract. It was surreal moment of all the hard work I have put in.


Q. What was your time with the Manchester City academy like?

Corfe: My time at Manchester City academy was amazing. I was there for six years, it really helped me develop into the player and person I am today.


Q. How did it feel to sign your first professional contract?

Corfe: It was an amazing feeling. I had been chasing this goal for my whole life and to put then pen to the paper was just a dream come true.


Q. What made you decide to stay to play professionally in the United States rather than England?

Corfe: I stayed in the United States because I wanted the opportunity to push myself to play in Major League Soccer one day for the New York Red Bulls.


Q. You have had your first preseason, what is some advice the older guys have given you?

Corfe: The main piece of advice I received was just to express yourself and do not be scared to make mistakes. This really helped me when first coming into preseason as you want to impress as much as possible.


Q. What is your favorite pre-game music?

Corfe: I enjoy listening to loads of different types of music before a game just to get me focused. Some specific genres that I like to listen to are rap, reggaeton, and music from back home in the United Kingdom.


Q. What do you like to do when you’re not training or playing soccer?

Corfe: When I’m not playing soccer, I like to play Xbox and play billiards in my spare time!


Q. If you could choose one soccer moment from the past to be in person to see, which one would you choose?

Corfe: I would choose to be at the Liverpool against Inter Champions League Final that took place in Istanbul. I chose that because Liverpool were down by three goals and completed the epic comeback.


Q. Was there a player that you grew up admiring when you were younger?

Corfe: One player that I really admired when I was younger was Cristiano Ronaldo.


Q. What is your favorite movie of all time?

Corfe: My favorite movie is most likely Inception.


Q. Who is your favorite club to support?

Corfe: My favorite club to support is Liverpool.


Q. With the suspension of play, what have you been doing to keep busy?

Corfe: I have been doing the workouts created by our strength and conditioning coach, Eric Gorman. Also, I have been training with the ball by myself.


Q: If there was a 3v3 tournament, who would be your two picks for your team from the club?

Corfe: That is a tough decision, but I think if I had to pick two, I would go with Preston Kilwien and Sebastian Elney.
