  • New York Red Bulls II (2-2-06 pts) use a late penalty-kick goal to down Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (2-2-06 pts), 2-1 on Sunday at Red Bull Arena. 

  • NYRBII has tallied back-to-back wins after beginning the season with two consecutive losses. Red Bulls II moved into a tie with Pittsburgh for second place in Group F. 

  • Following back-to-back 1-0 losses to begin 2020, NYRBII have outscored their last two opponents, 7-2. 

  • Pittsburgh jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off a set-piece in the ninth minute. About 25 yards out from net, Kenardo Forbes sent a free kick to the far post for Skylar Thomas to volley past Wallis Lapsley. 

  • NYRBII evened the score at one in the 35th minute with their own set-piece play. Following a restart of play just inside the midline, Caden Clark looped his pass over the Riverhound defense for Omar Sowe, who possessed the pass with his chest and volleyed to the near post for the equalizer. 

  • With time winding down in extra time, NYRBII earned a penalty kick in the 95th minute. English midfielder Deri Corfe finished with a low liner to the right post for the game winner. 

  • Corfe followed up his one-goal, one-assist performance against Union II with the game-winning goal against Pittsburgh. 

  • Harrison native Sowe has scored in back-to-back matches and has tallied four for his career. 

  • 17-year-old Minnesota native Clark recorded his first professional point as he tallied the assist on Sowe’s goal. 

  • Goalkeeper Wallis Lapsley earned his second-straight win in net with one save on two shots.  

  • Since Red Bull Arena opened in 2010, the New York Red Bulls and NYRBII are a combined 127-36-43. 

  • NYRBII begin a two-match road trip, beginning with Philadelphia Union II on Wednesday, August 5 at Subaru Park. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.
