  • New York Red Bulls II (4-7-0, 12 pts) rolled to a 6-0 victory over Philadelphia Union II on Wednesday night at MSU Soccer Park on the campus of Montclair State University.
  • NYRB II forward and Harrison, N.J. native Omar Sowe broke the match open with two goals just before half time. Sowe got his first in the 45th minute off of an assist from RBNY Academy player Bo Cummins. Defender Joe Fala fed Sowe two minutes later to double the lead before the halftime whistle.
  • NYRB II would strike again with two more back-to-back goals, first with halftime sub and current academy forward Dantouma Toure striking in the 72nd minute, and Sowe completing the hat trick in the 74th.
  • Caden Clark added a pair of late goals to round out the scoring.
  • Cummins, a current academy player, was joined by fellow RBNY academy player Joseph Zalinsky, who got the start at center back. Academy forward Dantouma “Yaya” Toure was subbed on at halftime.
  • The current academy players were joined in the Starting XI by academy alums John Tolkin, Chris Lema, Barry Sharifi, Joe LaCava, and Omar Sowe.
  • Six goals is the most NYRB II has scored in a match this season. The club also scored five once, also against Union II, in a 5-1 win on July 22. It was the most goals NYRB II has scored in a single match since July 13, 2019, when the club defeated Atlanta United 2, 8-2.
  • Goalkeeper Wallis Lapsley made 2 saves to earn his first, and the team’s first, shutout of the season.
  • NYRB II are back in action against Hartford Athletic on Wednesday, September 16 at 7 p.m. ET.
