The two honors winners from the 2015 MLS season meet for the only time in league play this season when the New York Red Bulls play host to the Portland Timbers on Sunday evening at Red Bull Arena before an ESPN2 audience.
After winning the Supporters’ Shield last year, the Red Bulls sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, their winless slide now at three games following their 2-0 loss at New York City FC last weekend.
The defending MLS Cup champion Timbers sit in a tie for sixth place in the Western Conference, after extending their current undefeated run to six games last week in a scoreless draw at the Colorado Rapids.
