Despite taking two away goals back home for Leg 2, Head Coach Jesse Marsch said the New York Red Bulls still have "a lot of work to do yet."
The Red Bulls topped Club Tijuana, in Mexico, 2-0 in Leg 1, with Bradley Wright-Phillips bagging both goals and Luis Robles making a career-high 13 saves.
"This was going to take a complete effort from our entire team to come here and get a result and that’s what we got," Marsch said. "We got a lot of good performances and a lot of guys that really dug in. We know this is far from over."
The head coach said that his two veterans stepped up for New York, helping the entire club to their two away goal advantage.
"Our two big leaders come up really big for us in this game," Marsch said.
BWP notched his first goal in the 9th minute and his second in the 67th for his brace.
Robles, made "save after save after save," said Marsch. Robles was just two saves shy of tying Tony Meola for the single-match club record, which was set back on April 5, 1997.
"This series is far from over," Marsch said. "They’ll have a good team to put on the field back at Red Bull Arena. This is a good result. Now we have to go back home, make some adjustments, and get ready for another match that’s going to take everything we have."
Leg 2 kicks off at Red Bull Arena on March 13 at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.
"This is far from over," Marsch said.
