Match Recap: NYRB II and Detroit City FC Play to Scoreless Draw at MSU Soccer Park in 2022 Home Finale

MONTCLAIR, NJ (September 21, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II (3-22-6, 15 points) and Detroit City FC (13-6-11, 50 points) played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday, September 21, at MSU Soccer Park.

In the 10th minute, Wiki Carmona moved to just before the halfway line and played a through ball to Jordan Adebayo-Smith along the far side of the field. The striker made a run to just inside the box and sent a shot that just missed the far post.

Detroit had a chance to take the lead in the 39th minute, as a cross was knocked down in the box to the feet of Brad Dunwell, who had his shot blocked. The visitors had a chance a minute later that was cleared out by Yostin Salinas.

Both clubs traded chances in the second half, but the defense held both ways for a scoreless draw.

The match marked the 125th and final USL Championship home match for New York Red Bulls II, who finished with a record of 58-44-23 in those matches (regular season and playoffs).

Giannis Nikopolidis tallied two saves in the match and recorded his second professional clean sheet. The first-year goalkeeper passed Luca Lewis for 6th in club history in minutes played in net along with goalkeeper appearances and starts.

Henry Wise made his Red Bulls II debut and logged 70 minutes in the defensive midfield.

Following the match, New York will travel to face Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday, October 1. Kickoff at Wild Horse Pass is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET with coverage available on ESPN+.
