ST. PETERSBURG, FL (October 15, 2021) – New York Red Bulls II (5-17-7, 21 points) earned a road point against the Atlantic Division leading Tampa Bay Rowdies (20-7-2, 62 points) on Friday, October 15 at Al Lang Stadium.

New York struck first in the 23rd minute, as midfielder Daniel Edelman found forward Omar Sowe, who threaded a ball up the field to forward Luther Archimede streaking down the field. Archimede surged past the Tampa Bay defense and found the back of the net.

Tampa Bay found the equalizer late in the first half, as midfielder Sebastian Dalgaard sent a ball into the box that New York defender Juan Castillo played into the net for an own goal.

Both sides tried to gain the advantage throughout the second half, but both stood strong. Goalkeeper AJ Marcucci recorded six of his seven saves in the second half, the most in a half for a New York goalkeeper this season.

Archimede’s goal was his second of the season. He has scored in two of New York’s last three matches. Sowe’s assist on the goal was his third of the season, adding to a career-high in that category.

Midfielder Steven Sserwadda made his club debut in the match, coming on in the 73rd minute for Archimede.

New York has recorded a point or more in four of its last five matches. The club will return home to host Loudoun United FC on Wednesday, October 20 for the club’s final home match of the season. Kickoff from MSU Soccer Park is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET, with coverage available on ESPN+.
