The New York Red Bulls topped the New England Revolution, 2-1, on Saturday night at Red Bull Arena.

Frankie Amaya and Wiki Carmona scored for New York in the victory.

Amaya opened the scoring, heading home a lofted cross from Dante Vanzeir, in the 58th minute.

"I was just in the right spot," Amaya said. "Dante played in an amazing ball and I just gave it my all try to jump as high as I can and place it in a good spot, and luckily I ended up scoring."

Amaya is the first player to score three goals in three games for RBNY since Bradley Wright-Phillips in October 2014, according to Major League Soccer.

Vanzeir’s assist on the Amaya goal was the first of his MLS career.

New England's Latif Blessing picked up a red card moments later, but the Revolution were able to equalize off the head of Brandon Bye in the 76th minute.

"What I told them was, three points, a big three points tonight," Head Coach Troy Lesesne said. "No. 1. Don't let anything that I'm about to say take that away from it. But it wasn't a complete performance tonight, and that's what we were asking for in the pre-match. And I think a lot of game, we have to say was very good from us."

Carmona, a sub who entered for Vanzeir, smashed a shot that deflected off a defender, kissed the bottom of the crossbar and found the back of the net for the game-winner.

"It's such a unique feeling to do this, scoring my first goal," Carmona said. "I hope to repeat it again."

Carmona’s goal was his first of the season and the second of his MLS career, with both goals coming against New England.

"We really showed resilience," Carmona said. "Coach always taught us that if something happens, a mistake, to get back up and keep going. They were a man down, and so with that man down, we took advantage."

Omir Fernandez provided the assist on Carmona's goal, his third consecutive match with an assist, and the eighth of his MLS career. Fernandez made his 100th career MLS appearance.

The Revolution thought they equalized in stoppage time, but the goal was called off for offside.

"But when we go up a man, I think we could have gotten the second goal, No. 1. And then No. 2, we let them back in the game with silly fouls and set pieces," Lesesne said.

New York's win brings them to 26 points on the season and within striking distance of being in playoff position.

The New York Red Bulls have now recorded 443 points at home since 2010, which is the most in MLS in that time span. Since 2015, New York is 107-21-27 when scoring the first goal of the match, including a 5-0-1 record this season.

New York is back in action again as they battle FC Cincinnati on Wednesday, July 12 at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and New York Red Bulls Radio in English via TuneIn, NewYorkRedBulls.com, and New York Red Bulls app.
