MATCH RECAP, pres. by Toyota: Red Bulls Take Three Points in Montréal

MTL - Match Recap

The New York Red Bulls are taking home all three points after downing CF Montréal, 2-0, at Stade Saputo.

Tim Parker and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored for New York, while Carlos Coronel made six saves to keep the clean sheet.

"The performance was really good -- very, very intensive, very aggressive," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said. "The most important thing to get these three points on the road. And we made it, and now we have to look forward for the next game."

Parker headed in a corner kick service from Emil Forsberg, which was flicked on by Kyle Duncan, at the back post to open the scoring for New York.

"He's very important for us," Schwarz said of Parker. "He's very, very important for us, how he's leading the team in our organization."

Parker scored his first MLS goal of the season and the seventh of his MLS career. It was his second career MLS goal for New York.

Forsberg tallied his 10th MLS assist of the season and the 15th of his MLS career.

Forsberg became the fifth player in franchise history to record 10-plus goals and assists in a single MLS season and the first since Thierry Henry in 2014. It is the seventh time a player has accomplished that feat.

Duncan tallied his fifth MLS assist of the season, which is now a new single-season career high for the defender. Duncan has now recorded 21 assists across all competitions for New York, which is the most in franchise history by a defender.

Choupo-Moting took a throw in from Marcelo Morales, dribbled through Montréal defenders, and slipped a shot through the goalkeeper's legs for his 16th MLS goal of the season.

Choupo-Moting's 16 goals is tied for seventh across MLS.

Coronel recorded his 10th MLS clean sheet of the season and the 45th of his MLS career.

Coronel became the second Red Bulls goalkeeper in franchise history to record 10-plus MLS clean sheets in multiple seasons.

Gustav Berggren and Morales both made their first MLS starts in the match.

"They did it very well, and the first game in the starting lineup," Schwarz said. "So they did it very well, especially in our ball position, to play very simple, very, very clean most of the time to play forward."

New York will face off against New York City FC on Saturday, September 27 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in the New York Derby.

"We need everyone, that's clear," Schwarz said. "We need everyone on Saturday in our stadium, and we need a great atmosphere. We have, first of all, the responsibility on the pitch to bring everything against them. We need the whole crowd in our stadium, and it starts with warm ups when we arrive in our stadium, and then we have to be ready against them, of course, but with a clear mindset, clear focus, clear concentration in our tactical principles."

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish, and New York Red Bulls Radio presented by Sports Illustrated in English via the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
