New York Red Bulls Captain Emil Forsberg Selected to Sweden National Team Roster for March Friendlies

HARRISON, N.J. (March 17, 2024) – New York Red Bulls captain Emil Forsberg has been selected to the Sweden Men’s National Team roster for their upcoming March friendlies, the federation announced today. 

Forsberg, 32, joined New York this past offseason after nine years with RB Leipzig, where he made 325 appearances and recorded 71 goals and 68 assists. In his first season with the Red Bulls, Forsberg has recorded one goal and one assist in four matches. He recorded both his first goal and first assist in his first home match at Red Bull Arena on March 9 in a 2-1 win over FC Dallas. Forsberg was named to the Team of the Matchday for Matchday 4 for his performance.  

The Sundsvall, Sweden native has made 86 career appearances with the Swedish National Team, where he has scored 21 goals and tallied nine assists.  Forsberg has competed in two Euros with Sweden and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He scored the game-winning goal against Switzerland in the Round of 16, which sent Sweden to the quarterfinals of the World Cup for the first time since 2018. 

Forsberg and Sweden will participate in two international friendlies during the March window against Portugal and Albania. The first match against Portugal is scheduled for Thursday, March 21 at Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques, with kickoff set for 3:45 p.m. ET and then Sweden will face Albania at Friends Arena on Monday, March 25 with kickoff set for 2 p.m. ET.
