New York Red Bulls Defender John Tolkin Named to United States Men's National Team Roster for 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup

HARRISON, N.J. (June 12, 2023) – New York Red Bulls defender John Tolkin has been named to the United States Men’s National team roster for the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup, U.S. Soccer announced today.  

Tolkin has made one senior national team cap with the United States. He started and played 81 minutes in the United States’ 0-0 draw against Colombia on January 28. The Chatham, N.J. native will be participating in his second camp with the USMNT.

Tolkin and USMNT will begin 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup group stage play on Saturday, June 24 against Jamaica at Soldier Field. Kickoff is set for 9:30 p.m. ET with coverage on FS1 and Univision. They will then face an opponent to be determined on Wednesday, June 28 and then play Nicaragua for their final group stage match on Sunday, July 2.

Tolkin, 20, is in his fourth season with the New York Red Bulls. The homegrown defender has made 74 MLS appearances for New York, where he has recorded two goals and nine assists. This season Tolkin has recorded four assists, a new single-season career-high, and ranks tied for second among active MLS defenders in assists.

The defender was named No. 6 overall on the 2022 MLS 22 Under 22 list. He has received multiple call-ups to the United States Youth National teams, including eight with the U.S. U-20’s.
