New York Red Bulls Sign NYRB II Forward and Harrison Native Omar Sowe

Sowe joined the Red Bulls Academy early in 2018 before signing with Red Bulls II in 2019

HARRISON, N.J. (September 11, 2021) – The New York Red Bulls have signed NYRBII forward and Harrison, New Jersey, native Omar Sowe to an MLS contract, the club announced today. Sowe signed a year-and-a-half contract with two option years.

“We are pleased to promote Omar to the first team,” Head of Sport Kevin Thelwell said. “Omar has been a rising talent since he joined the organization. We hope he continues to carry over his positive progression to the first team.”

Sowe, 20, has had a strong offensive season for NYRBII in 2021, leading the team in goals (6), shots (41) and chances created (25) in 21 appearances. His six goals and 25 chances created ranks 28th and 43rd, respectively, among USL Championship. Sowe has tallied 15 goals and two assists in 41 appearances since being signed to Red Bulls II on August 16, 2019.

“Omar has been playing at a top level with Red Bulls II,” said Head Coach Gerhard Struber. “His ability to score has been impressive and hopefully we can raise his level when he joins us.”

Sowe was a member of the Red Bulls U-18 academy team early in 2019. He appeared in 15 matches and recorded nine goals. Prior to joining the academy, Sowe tallied 89 goals and 67 assists for Harrison High School, setting new offensive records for the storied Harrison Soccer Program. He was a two-time NJSCAA All-State selection and earned Section 2 Player of the Year honors in 2018.
