Red Bull New York have traded Lewis Morgan to San Diego FC in exchange for up to $1.1 million in General Allocation Money (GAM) and San Diego’s natural third round pick in the 2027 MLS SuperDraft.
RBNY will acquire $450,000 in 2026 GAM and up to $650,000 in GAM if certain performance-based incentives are achieved. New York will send $525,000 in 2027 GAM to SDFC.
“Lewis has always handled himself with the utmost professionalism, through many tough moments in his career and many fantastic ones,” Head of Sport Julian de Guzman said. “We wish Lewis the best of luck in San Diego.”
Morgan joined New York from Inter Miami CF via trade in 2021. In his four seasons with the club, Morgan made 69 MLS appearances, where he scored 27 MLS goals and added 11 MLS assists. In his first season, Morgan led the club in goals scored with 14 goals, which is the most by a Red Bulls midfielder in a single season in franchise history. The Paisley, Scotland native then missed most of the 2023 season, logging 297 minutes played.
In 2024, Morgan bounced back from injury and made 29 MLS appearances, where he scored 13 MLS goals and tallied seven MLS assists. He became the 13th player in franchise history to record 20-plus goals and 10-plus assists in a Red Bulls career during that season. Morgan was named MLS Comeback Player of the Year and became the first RBNY player to win the award. He helped guide New York to their first Eastern Conference Championship after tallying two assists during the 2024 Audi MLS Cup Playoff run. Morgan logged 148 minutes played in 2025.
Morgan finishes his RBNY career with the eighth-most MLS goals scored by a player in franchise history and the sixth-most by a forward.
New York will retain a portion of Morgan’s Salary Budget Charge.
