New York Red Bulls II midfielder Steven Sserwadda made his first team debut on Wednesday, June 22, in the Red Bulls’ 3-0 victory over New York City FC in the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal Round.

Sserwadda, in his second season with Red Bulls II, was on a short-term loan with the first team for the second consecutive match. He came on in the 84th minute and later played a key role in the team’s third goal, as he played a ball up the near side of the field for Cameron Harper, who found Omir Fernandez in the box.

The 19-year-old is the third Red Bulls II player to spend time with the first team on a short-term loan (Juan Castillo, O’Vonte Mullings), and the first to make his debut.

It added to a year in which he also made his debut with the Ugandan National Team. After featuring at both the U-20 and U-23 level, he moved up to the senior team in March, where he has totaled three appearances, one start, and 120 minutes so far.

In two seasons with Red Bulls II, he has appeared in 14 matches, started 12, and accumulated 1,069 minutes.
