SCENARIOS ENTERING SATURDAY’S SECOND LEG

The Red Bulls enter Saturday’s decisive second leg of the Eastern Conference Championship trailing 2-1 on aggregate. The Red Bulls scored two goals at Gillette Stadium earlier this season in June in a 2-0 win over the New England Revolution as Eric Alexander and Peguy Luyindula each scored for New York.

Below are different scenarios that will see New York through to MLS Cup.

Red Bulls advance with…

Any win by two or more goals:

  • 2-0 – advance 3-2 on aggregate
  • 3-0 – advance 4-2 on aggregate

Any two-goal win scoring at least three times:

  • 3-1 – advance 4-3 on aggregate
  • 4-2 – advance 5-4 on aggregate

Any one-goal win scoring three or more times:

  • 3-2 – tie aggregate 4-4, advance on away goals, 3-2
  • 4-3 – tie aggregate 5-5, advance on away goals, 4-2

Red Bulls force overtime with…

A 2-1 win, which would pull them level on aggregate, 3-3, and on away goals, 2-2. In the event of a 2-1 finish in New England, the score would be reset and the away goals rule would be wiped out. The two teams would play a 30-minute, winner-take-all overtime. If the overtime session also ends in a tie, the Eastern Conference Championship, and the right to play for the MLS Cup, would be decided by penalty kicks.

25,000 STRONG AT SOLD OUT RED BULL ARENA FOR FINAL MATCH OF 2014

New York takes on New England in Foxborough, Mass. on Saturday, November 29 at Gillette Stadium in leg two of the Eastern Conference Championship.

THIERRY HENRY, LUIS ROBLES UP FOR GOAL OF THE YEAR; SAVE OF THE YEAR

New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry and goalkeeper Luis Robles are both finalists for the 2014 MLS Goal of the Year and Save of the Year, respectively. Voting for both finalists begins today at 12:00 PM ET and closes on Wednesday, November 26 at 11:59 PM ET.

THIERRY HENRY

Early in the second half on September 6, Henry put New York ahead 2-0 with a right-footed shot from outside the 18-yard-box. Midfielder Lloyd Sam cut inside towards the top of the area and played a pass to Henry in the 51st minute and the captain did the rest.

After taking one touch inside, Henry ripped a right-footed shot across the face of goal and buried his eighth goal of the year.

LUIS ROBLES

With his team leading Seattle Sounders FC 4-1 on September 20, Luis Robles came up with a huge double-save to keep his team comfortably ahead in the 69th minute. Sounders midfielder Marco Pappa took a left-footed shot from outside the 18-yard-box that deflected off Red Bulls' defender Jamison Olave and changed directions, forcing Robles to go back across his body to make the initial save.

Robles' save deflected right into the path of Sounders' forward Clint Dempsey who headed the rebound towards goal, but Robles extended fully to his right to make the second save.
