What to Watch For: NYRB II vs. Charlotte Independence

Stroud, Lema

New York Red Bulls II will host Charlotte Independence on Friday, September 13, with kick-off set for 7 p.m. ET. Here are three things to watch for:

PLAYOFFS IN SIGHT

NYRB II are currently sitting in first place of the Eastern Conference with a total of 53 points. There are multiple scenarios at play this week for NYRB II to clinch a spot in the 2019 USL Championship playoffs. The first thing is NYRB II will have to defeat Charlotte this Friday, and then either Charleston Battery or Saint Louis FC will have to lose their matches this weekend.

BACK AT HOME

It has been about a month since NYRB II last stepped onto the pitch at MSU Soccer Park, and the club will be hungrier than ever to perform, since their last match at home ended in a 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. NYRB II have posted a 10-3-2 record at home this year and will be looking to extend that in front of their fans this weekend.

SCORE, SCORE, SCORE

NYRB II have only been shut out three times this season, most recently against Indy Eleven on the road. NYRB II have not been shutout in two straight matches since April 28 and May 2 of last year. They have also not been shutout at MSU Soccer Park since June 24, 2018. The club has the second-most goals scored in the league and are only eight goals from breaking the record for most goals scored in a single season.

Following Friday’s match, New York Red Bulls II will travel to take on Saint Louis FC on September 18, with kick-off set for 8 p.m. ET.
