New York Red Bulls II grabbed their first point of the season against Charleston Battery this past Friday.

“First, it’s good to get our first point. I felt we had a good start to the game,” New York Red Bulls II Head Coach John Wolyniec said. “It was definitely a step in the right direction from last week.”

After earning their first point, Wolyniec still wants to see the team create more chances going forward, especially in their upcoming match against Miami FC on Friday, May 14.

“I certainly would have liked to create more; I don’t think we created enough chances,” Wolyniec said. “Although we get close in the end, where we get a couple of transition moments and a set piece where we create a little bit, but I certainly want to be more consistent with that, creating more chances throughout the game.”

Despite the positives taken from the Charleston match, Wolyniec believes there are important lessons to take from the first two matches of the 2021 season.

“As the season goes, we have to start learning some lessons on how to manage games and how to be a bit more ready and able to put a bit more into it,” Wolyniec said. “I think we’re stepping in the right direction, but still some more work to be done.”

New York will play their third straight match at MSU Soccer Park on Friday against Miami FC for the first-time ever, with kick-off set for 7 p.m. ET, coverage will be available on ESPN+.
