NYRB II Gaining Momentum With Tough Schedule Ahead

vs. ATL 2

New York Red Bulls II started their season off in the best way possible, with a 6-1-2 record, which was the best start in club history after 9 games.

In the middle of May, NYRB II was on three-game winless streak, which saw them lose to the Tampa Bay Rowdies and North Carolina F.C. Since then, they have won their last two matches, gaining momentum going into a difficult schedule.

The team will host Louisville City FC on Sunday, June 16, at MSU Soccer Park, with some players being a little bit hungrier than others.  Midfielder Chris Lema knows that every game is important, but this game always brings more to the table.

“We will be as hungry as any other game and even hungrier because of how it went last year,” Lema said.

He is referring to NYRB II’s loss to Louisville City FC in the 2018 Eastern Conference Championship, which was the third-straight year the two clubs have met in that match.

The match on Sunday is sure to be a good one, but the difficult part of June is yet to come. After they face Louisville City FC, they will travel for three road matches in a week, which includes trips to Pittsburgh, Nashville, and Charleston.

Last year, NYRB II struggled on the road posting a 2-5-10 record. This year the club has found some success on the road posting a 2-1-1 away record so far, with the only away loss coming to the Rowdies. The club has already equalized their total of wins on the road from 2018, which has seen them earn seven of a possible 12 points.

The month of June will be an interesting month for NYRB II, but with them playing some of their best soccer this season, there will definitely be some must watch soccer in the next couple weeks.
