Josh Sims: ‘I'm Trying to Get Up to Pace and Hopefully Get Some Good Minutes in the Preseason’

Josh Sims completed his first full day of preseason training with the club on Tuesday. The English winger looks forward to completing this second preseason camp with the team and getting on the same pace as his teammates.

“It’s good to be back here for the beginning of the season,” he said after completing the morning training session. “Last year, I came halfway through, so it’s always difficult to get up to the pace of the boys. It's been an easier transition. So now, I'm happy to be here and get back to playing.”

Although Sims missed the first part of the preseason in Florida, where the team got wins against D.C. United and the University of South Florida, he feels that the training he completed back home will benefit him in the next few days.

“Yeah, so I've been doing a lot in the offseason. I've been training back in England, so it's good to be starting preseason fit, rather than the other way around when you usually come back around and you sort of dreading preseason because it’s going to be hard,” he said. “Hopefully, I won't be far behind the boys; I know they've had a few games already. I'm trying to get up to pace and hopefully get some good minutes in the preseason.”

The New York Red Bulls will play a closed exhibition match against Phoenix Rising on Wednesday.
