KEYS TO THE GAME, pres. by Honda: New York Red Bulls vs. D.C. United

Keys to the Game DC

The New York Red Bulls drew 1-1 in their visit to the New England Revolution on Saturday, and now they’ll get ready to host D.C. United. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Here are the Keys to the Game, presented by Honda:

Keep Positive Home Streak Going

So far this season, the Red Bulls have played two home games at Red Bull Arena and are undefeated with two wins. Led by right-back Kyle Duncan, who scored a goal in each game, New York have scored four goals at home.

Following their 1-0 victory in the New York Derby on August 20, the Red Bulls will arrive Wednesday night looking to increase their 2020 home winning streak to three.

This week, New York will play two games at RBA, and it will be a great opportunity to get six points.

Continue Positive Offensive Momentum

Against the Revolution, the Red Bulls took eight shots, four of them on target. In their last home game at RBA, New York finished the night with seven shots on target.

Creating chances is something that New York will need to keep doing in order to walk away with the win against D.C., and as Omir Fernandez mentioned on Saturday night after scoring his first goal in 2020, they’ll have to be ready to put their chances in the back of the net.

“We just wanted to go in with confidence, and I knew I was going to get one,” said Fernandez. “I just had to put it in the back of the net and luckily I was able to do that tonight.”

D.C. United Haven’t Won Since March 7, But That Doesn’t Matter

They say that in rivalry games, like the one the Red Bulls and D.C. United have had for many years, the past is forgotten, and all that matters is the present. Although D.C. haven’t won a game since March, the Red Bulls can’t head into Wednesday night relaxed.

United have lost three of their last four matches and are currently in a two-game losing streak after losing 4-1 to the Philadelphia Union.

The Red Bulls defeated D.C. 3-0 in their last preseason friendly held in Bradenton, Florida earlier this year.
