On June 12, in Austria, Alejandro "Kaku" Romero Gamarra, made his debut with the Paraguay National Team, in an international friendly against Japan, after entering as a sub in the second half.

Now back stateside with the Red Bulls, Kaku talked a bit about what that experience was like.

"Truthfully, I was really happy to be able to debut in the match (against Japan) for Paraguay," Kaku said. "It’s really a special feeling. And although we didn’t get the result we wanted, because we wanted to win the game, I was very happy to debut with the team."

Kaku also talked about the match against Japan, who is participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and how it was a step in the right direction for Paraguay.

"It was a tough match, since they were coming in with a better rhythm than us and on their way to play in the World Cup," Kaku said. "Here on the Paraguayan team, we’re still getting to know each other, but it was a step in the right direction for us."

After missing the last three matches, the playmaking midfielder rejoined the Red Bulls Starting XI for the Round of 16 match against the Philadelphia Union in the U.S. Open Cup, on Saturday, June 16.

His impact was immediately felt, playing all over the field, making crisp passes to teammates, and eventually assisted in the Bradley Wright-Phillips goal in the 77th minute.

The next match for the Red Bulls will be on June 23, at Red Bull Arena against a FC Dallas team, who currently sit in second place in the Western Conference.
