Match Preview: NYRB II Returns Home to Face Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC

1HARRISON, N.J. (July 21, 2021) – New York Red Bulls II (3-6-4, 13 points) hosts Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (7-4-3, 24 points) on Friday, July 23. Kickoff between New York and Pittsburgh is set for 7 p.m. ET. Coverage is available on ESPN+.

It will mark the 13th USL Championship regular season match between New York and Pittsburgh, with Pittsburgh leading the series 6-5-1. The match will be the third meeting of the season between the two clubs. Pittsburgh defeated New York 3-0 on Friday, May 28 and 2-1 on Friday, June 25.

New York last played on Saturday, July 10 against Hartford Athletic. Forward Omar Sowe’s third goal of the season gave New York the early edge, and defender Matthew Acosta’s first professional goal doubled the lead later in the half. Hartford scored twice after the 85th minute, making the final score 2-2. New York has recorded a point or more in four of its last five matches.

New York currently sits in seventh place of the Atlantic Division, while Pittsburgh ranks second. Like New York, Pittsburgh has lost once during their last five matches. They are coming off a 1-0 victory against Loudoun United FC on Saturday, July 17.

Following Friday’s match, New York will conclude their July slate with a trip to face Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, July 31. Kickoff from Heart Health Park is set for 11 p.m. ET.
