Match Recap: NYRB II Falls to Memphis 901 FC, 3-0

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (September 19, 2021) – New York Red Bulls II (4-16-4, 16 points) suffered a 3-0 defeat to Memphis 901 FC (7-8-7, 28 points) on Sunday afternoon at MSU Soccer Park.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 21st minute, as forward Kyle Murphy converted a penalty kick following a New York hand ball in the box. Five minutes later, Memphis defender Skylar Thomas headed in a corner kick to double the advantage.

New York came close to cutting into the deficit in the 60th minute as a flurry of shots on goal were kept out by Memphis goalkeeper Cody Cropper. On the ensuing corner kick, Cropper came up with another save as defender Mandela Egbo put an immediate shot on net.

Murphy recorded his second goal of the match in the 79th minute after breaking away from the New York backline.

New York forward Luther Archimede made his first professional start in his sixth appearance of the season. Goalkeeper AJ Marcucci tallied six saves, which was his second highest of the year.

New York will travel to face the Charleston Battery on Wednesday, September 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET, with coverage available on ESPN+.
