“We need to take another step forward.”
This was the message from Head Coach Jesse Marsch ahead of the Red Bulls’ final preseason clash in Florida against the Philadelphia Union.
“I think we will push a lot of the starting guys,” Marsch continued. “Maybe have them play 60 minutes and then try to see if we can take the lessons that we learned from New England and add them to our next match and see if we can grow on that and get a little bit better.”
In the eyes of veteran goalkeeper Luis Robles, it’ll be important for the team to, “continue this process of learning how we want to play.”
“I feel like the first two weeks have gone really well and we want to cap off our first camp with a good performance,” Robles said. “More than anything I think we want to look like us.”
With two preseason matches under their belts against USF and the New England Revolution to shake the rust off and acclimate new players the team’s style of play, Marsch says the emphasis for tomorrow is “finishing strong” as their Champions League date with CD Olimpia nears.
“This is a young and new group so we are trying to make sure that in all ways every guy is where they need to be mentality, physically, psychologically so that come that February 22nd date and even come next camp we are ready to really launch off a platform of success,” Marsch said.
New York faces Philadelphia on Saturday, February 3 at 10 a.m. ET. The scrimmage is free and open to the public. No live stream will be available.
